Scrap’N Stamp Turnabout Blog Hop

There are two must have tools for these turnabout stamps. The first thing you will need to start using your turnabout stamps is a jig. Concord & 9th has two different types that you can purchase. One is the Mini Turnabout Jig and the other is the Original Turnabout Jig. Both are at a great pricepoint and remember….You can save 15% this month by using the above coupon code at Scrap’N Stamp! The second tool you will need is a stamp platform of some type. I prefer to use the Tim Holtz Travel stamp platform. It is the perfect size and I love that the lid can come off and be turned to use thicker / rubber backed stamps.

Once you have your jig the next step is to prepare your stamp. Concord & 9th turnabout stamps come with a stamp set up guide with the packaging. You will want to line your stamp up directly overtop of the image with the “X”. Then with a straight edge or ruler you will want to use a permanent maker to trace the “X”. This mark allows you to line the stamp up with your jig to acheive the perfect stamp. You can watch this process on the YouTube video as well.

You are now ready to start stamping. Line up the “X” on your stamp to the “X” on your jig, then lay the lid of your stamp platform down onto the stamp to pick it up. I like to place my jig in the left hand corner in case it moves I can easily place it back knowing everything will line up pefectly. You will then line up your cardstock with the corresponding size marks. ie: 6″x6″ or 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″.

The stamp set I am using today is the Darling Petals Turnabout Stamp. There are coordinating dies available.

This stamp set is particularily unique in that it is designed for multiple ink colours. The stamp is essentially set up two have the petal /flower images on one section of the stamp and the leaves/foliage on the other. You can apply the ink to the stamp directly from an inkpad or you can use an ink dauber to be more precise with smaller areas. I have gone ahead and inked up this stamp with two colours so that you can see the stamp images more clearly. The flowers are orange and the leaves are green.

Now you simply ink up the images with your desired ink and colours. I am using dye inks from Umberalla Craft today because they stain the stamp and it makes it easier for you to see. However, these will work with other inks like the Distress Inks and Oxides as well. Once you ink and stamp the first set of images remember to turn your jig. I like to stamp and then turn the jig right away so as not to forget. You can turn your jig either clockwise or counterclock wise, just remembering to stay consistent in which direction you have chosen. You can turn and stamp your images once, twice, three or four times to get your desired look. I have chosen to turn mine 4 times so that you can see how the complete stamping looks. This stamp also layers the stamping…something that not all turnabouts do. This allows you to switch up colour tones if you like to get a layered look. I decided to keep with just the two colours to see how it would end up looking and how much layering it would give me. I like that it leaves an open space for you to place a sentiment if you choose to keep it a one layered card.

I don’t mind how this turned out. You can see some layering…but, I decided I wanted to step it up just a bit and brought in two more ink colours and used the separate floral and leaf detail stamps that also come with the set.

I think this gave the result of more depth and dimension to my project.

I went ahead and cut this panel down using the largest of the MFT Wonky Stitched Dies and mounted it to some orange cardstock. For my sentiment I used Versamark and white heat embossing with a corresponding sentiment from the same stamp set and went with a stitched circle die and some yellow cardstock. I pop this up with some adhesive foam squares. I used the stand alone floral and leave stamps so that I could pop some of the images off the card, again, adding more depth and dimension to the card. The final touch was to add some sequins with my jewel picker and adhering them down with Glossy Accents.

I’m really pleased with how this card turned out and I love the summery colours!

As I mentioned above, you can use Distress Inks and daubers to add more colours to specific areas. I decided to quickly create a one layer card with this technique.
